So did I, actually. Reload asks for slots in alter_reg. It seemed
simple enough to get it to allocate more memory. Where I failed was
in convincing reload to use a different mode for the spill/fill. I
would have thought this would have been possible to fix in
emit_reload_insns or one of its subroutines, but I failed to see how.
